XCOPY’s “This is Clearly Money Laundering” is a biting and satirical critique of the absurdity of the crypto and financial markets: a repetitive gif that ironically exposes the suspicion that behind so many brilliant and abstract transactions, there is an infinite cycle of money laundering disguised as art. In an alternate science fiction vein, the gif character himself, tired of spinning in eternal loops, decides to escape the pixel and enter the blockchain in the form of talking bytes. There he meets Daiana Lazzarin, an eccentric scientist-sculptor who captures him with a “Ctrl+C, Ctrl+Sculpture” and recompiles him into a glowing mass of living lines of code. The result is a statue that not only lights up every time someone launders money in the chain, but also coughs out bad jokes about bankers, becoming the first work of art that simultaneously accuses, laughs, and collects virtual taxes in the format of a digital stand-up comedy.
