“DEATHLESS” by XCOPY - Sculpture by Daiana Lazzarin
XCOPY's “DEATHLESS” work embodies many of the artist's signature themes: death, dystopia, the corroded digital image, and the glitch aesthetic. The work, like other XCOPY works, leverages distorted visual loops and effects that convey a sense of technological failure or deterioration to provoke reflection: even the digital, the "eternal" (or what we believe to be immortal online), is subject to wear and tear, degradation, flickering, and the shadow of mortality. It's almost a modern memento mori in an NFT version: that which doesn't die in the physical sense is forced to confront visual and conceptual impermanence. Before becoming famous in the NFT world, many years ago, when he was publishing works on Tumblr, XCOPY sold physical prints of his digital works. On one occasion, someone bought a unique digital piece, and he destroyed the remaining physical copies, turning that single print into something legendary for collectors.
